“Corinne and I met this family at the same time while we were in graduate school together at Christie’s, so we were both particularly happy when they asked us both to work on their Gloucester home. Corinne’s team established a sophisticated beachy feel with natural materials and colors. In all of our projects with Corinne, she has handed over the reins art-wise, and leaves full discretion up to us and the clients.
The house is set on the beach and gets the majority of its use in the summer, but the family loves it as a year round escape from their Brookline, MA home, so we wanted to think about how the artwork would feel in all seasons. Having helped this family with their primary residence (working with Corinne on that project as well), we had a good sense for their aesthetic sensibilities. We discovered through this process that the client loved the color orange, which had never come up in the years we have known them. With this in mind, we placed a stunning Thomas Jackson photograph with fiery orange tones in their entry and a sunset with orange sky by Jonathan Smith. One of our favorite works is a tondo by artist Miya Ando, which is called “Blue Sky (Aozora)” and is a luminescent blue work with a reflective horizon line and floating clouds created using resin on aluminum.”
