“One of the most meaningful aspects of this project was incorporating artwork created by the client’s mother. Together with Bill and the client, we spent a day at her home reviewing an entire body of work—from expressive oil paintings to beautifully detailed sketchbooks inspired by the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masters. We selected key pieces to feature prominently in the home, and framed several sketches for more intimate spaces like the primary bedroom and ensuite bath.
To honor the European influences throughout the home, we chose carved wood and gilt frames that elevated and unified the collection. The client also acquired several Impressionist paintings at Sotheby’s, whose soft palettes and delicate brushwork complemented her mother’s art seamlessly.
Another standout piece in the project was a large Edo-period Japanese screen from the Kano School (1615–1868), acquired at auction. While the screen’s panels were exquisite, its original black plastic frame was poorly made and clashed with the design. We had a custom gold leaf frame crafted to match the tone of the original panels, transforming the screen into a true focal point.”
